So what exactly is this new Hyperspot and how does it fit into the Rigid Industries product offering?
E and SR Combo Lights: These are the original and still one of the best around. Using our patented Hybrid optics, these light bars provide a great amount of light in a very usable medium width beam. The Hybrid spot is about a 10 degree beam, while the hybrid flood is a 20 degree beam. When used separately or together in a combo you will have a great amount of light in a beam that is still better than anything on the market. The great thing about our hybrid technology is the efficiency. While not the narrowest beam we offer, you have almost 100% of the produced light projected in a very useable 10/20 degree combo. As an all-around, very efficient smooth beam, the original is still the standard to beat.
E2 and SR2 Combo Lights: Utilizing our newest optics, combined with our widest give an incredible evolution of the linear light bar. Using multiple optics technology in the same light gives the ultimate in projected light. You get wider and narrower light all in the same unit. As you can see in the diagram to the right, there are multiple beam sets that works perfectly together for seamless light exactly where you need it.
The 45 degree portion is from Spector driving optics. These are the same patented optics that are used in the ultra-popular D2 Driving lights. Providing a 45 degree wide and 15 degree tall driving beam, you get all the width desired without wasting spill light where you don’t need or want it with large single reflectors.
The narrow beam is almost all from the Hyperspot® portion of the light. The Hyperspot® is Rigid’s newest and most intense narrow beam optic. With a 5 degree full width beam 85%+ efficient optic, the distance is almost hard to describe. For instance a 30” E2 Combo using both Hyperspot® and Spector® optics has essentially a pair of D2’s on each end of the light for great width, but then projects measurable lux over a FULL MILE! The E2/SR2 combo’s are the ultimate in versatility, more width and distance all in the same size light! We do offer only Hyperspot® up to 20” E2 and SR2, but any dedicated Hyperspot® should be used in conjunction with other lights. As a standalone light the Hyperspot can be too narrow and too intense. When combined as a bit of extra distance with other Rigid lights, it is the ultimate in distance just don’t underestimate the intensity!
Tech Talk Technology
In previous tech briefs from Rigid Industry we discussed what really matters in an LED driving light, this week we are going to look at the new Hyperspot® optic and how we use it to create the most intense, furthest projecting LED light on the market.
Peak Beam Intensity: Is specified as Candela, Per SAE FL1 standards PBI is calculated as Lux*(Distance)2 . This is a good # to compare lights and is a measure of intensity at the brightest portion of the beam, measured at a distance of no closer than 10m.
Hyperspot® – Rigid Industries newest (Patent pending) optical system. Using a combination of projecting lens with tuned aperture gives an INSANE amount of peak candela with an incredibly clean and tight beam. Using top of the line Osram LED’s, we can project a 5 degree beam with zero spill light. Comparing just pure distance and intensity, there isn’t another Vehicle LED light in the world that can project more lux for the price, power consumed or in a given size.
So you say that’s great, a 5 degree beam though, that is going to be great if your searching for bad guys from a helicopter, but in a car? Yes, you read that right, Rigid created a light that is too bright and narrow! If you have a need to see over a mile(E2 20” Hyperspot, PN12171) down the road or have a tendency of driving over 100 mph regularly a dedication Hyperspot light would be just what you want. This technology is also ideal for low visibility. With virtually zero spill light, the light will go exactly where you need it, not up into the sky reflecting off fog or dust.
The true innovators at Rigid had the perfect solution all along, combine it with our patented Spector optics! We always knew the Spector would work great in a light bar, we just needed the right combination. Through this research, in the lab AND real world testing we have the perfect combination of width and distance. Using our Spector optics, the user gets in matched distance combined with a 40 degree wide driving beam. It is absolutely the perfect combination for use on any kind of vehicle, doesn’t matter if it goes 5 or 150mph, the light is controlled and where you need it.
Let’s look at a 10” E2 Combo and compare it to another light that claims to be used for “High Speed” driving. Their (8”) costs the same, draws the same power, is about the same size yet produces 45% less lux(204k vs 113k lux claimed) in a beam that is 70% narrower. True technology will always trump marketing fluff. With the Rigid E2 and SR2 combo lights, you get the best of both distance and width.
Now let’s discuss those applications where you want to drive at 100mph or just see something a very long way away. We can go to a smaller, non-combo light, the 6” hyperspot. The energy produced is in a very tight 5 degree beam, but projecting measurable lux an incredible 1,100 meters! Keep in mind a mile is 1600 meters, so a little 6” light that costs roughly $350 will project light over 2/3rd of a mile. There isn’t another light in the world that can come close to the intensity per dollar, inches, watt or pound. If somebody tries to tell you different, we suggest you download a free light meter app on your smart phone and compare for yourself.
As additional proof, this technology was just proven on multiple Baja 1000 champion’s race cars. Rigid Industry lights were used as the only light source on both the Trophy truck and Class 1 winners, the two fastest and heaviest classes in Baja. BJ Baldwin won an unprecedented two Score Baja 1000 races with 100% Rigid Industries LED lighting. Running an assortment of lights including 40” E2 combo on his bumper, he commented after the race that “This pretty well proves the round light is dead”. Please call Rigid Industries or your local dealer for more information on this game changing technology.
